Introducing Shared Albums – Everyone’s photos, together at last

Privately sharing all the photos you took – and getting the ones you didn’t – is hard. Texting and emailing lots of photos is slow and data-intensive, and sometimes photo sharing apps don’t work across different devices.

Introducing shared albums – a fast and simple way to pool photos with friends and family, no matter what device everyone’s on.

Just select photos and tap “New shared album” to create a link with collaboration on. Friends and family with the link can add photos, get updates, and save photos with just a tap.

Shared albums are rolling out now on Android, iOS, and the web.
• On Android, shared albums will automatically become available in the app, as long as you have v1.10 in the Play Store: goo.gl/55OnIr
• On iOS, get the v1.6 update in the App Store: goo.gl/gjaHPD
• Shared albums are available now on photos.google.com.

A detailed write up from the Software Freedom Conservancy covering their analysis of the ZFS/GPL issue.

This is in stark contrast to Canonical's rather arrogant stance of "shut up, we know better".

But it's encouraging to hear that Canonical are working with the SFC so perhaps there's some chance of them changing their stance.

Of course Oracle could easily clear things up, but let's be honest that's not likely.

In the mean time it seems Canonical is asking Ubuntu users to take a risk
They'll argue that their indemnification program covers this, but that's only for the minority of Ubuntu users who are paying customers.

GPL is not a user license, so users have nothing at all to fear from it.

Securing #centos 7 server with yum-cron (awesome) .. Sad there's no way to restart svcs/kernel when it makes sense. Any #systemd magic ? +Lennart Poettering ;)

I should add that the idea of automatically restarting services just because their libraries got updated is pretty bonkers anyway.

What happens if a very low-level library gets updated, like glibc? Should every service be restarted? If not, are you now going to have to maintain some kind of blacklist so that only "safe" libraries trigger a restart?

What about processes that aren't associated with services, like things in people's login sessions?

And finally, the sort of search that needs-restarting and similar tools do is pretty naive. They simply look around for processes that seem to have library files open that are no longer present in the filesystem (i.e. have been replaced with a newer version). But that really only works with load-time-linked shared object libraries -- it doesn't help software that dynamically loads and unloads libraries at runtime, or software written in scripting languages that don't keep their library files open all the time.

There's a reason why needs-restarting (and similarly the "tracker" plugin for DNF) simply report the list of processes that might need restarting and leave it up to the sysadmin to decide what to do.

The all new +NFC Ring works great with smart lock for Android, allowing you to easily and securely bypass your lock screen. I've had a pre-production unit for a while and I can confirm that this version is MUCH better than the original one. I did not like the original one. It did not work for me. The 2016 version though, it works great. Night and day differences. I'm impressed with what they were able to accomplish.

Their +Kickstarter project needs a bit more funding. You can check it out here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mclear/nfc-ring-2016-range-one-smart-ring-unlimited-possi. There's only 4 days left.

I'll have more on this NFC Ring in a little bit. #soon
