It could be a placebo effect, but it seems like I get lethargic the whole day when I put sugar in my coffee or tea.

Googled "ingredients to building a good country". Only 3 results related to state-building, while the rest are recipes. Nevertheless, not bad, Google.

Don't worry, I use Google+, this shouldn't affect me. #missingthepoint
(Besides, it's got Plus in its name! It couldn't be all that bad now, right?)

Methinks similar tendency is seen in people frequenting reunions and social gatherings where people only brag about good things that happen in their lives
The social media site, Facebook, can be an effective tool for connecting with new and old friends. However, some users may find themselves spending quite a bit of time viewing Facebook and may inevitably begin comparing what's happening in their lives to the activities and accomplishments of their friends.

I wonder what the web would look like if cookies never existed. It would mean lots of untargeted, irrelevant ads appearing on sites I visit. On the bright side, irrelevant also means discovery of new things. But I'd hate to put up with irrelevancy just to get to know things by chance.

So let me keep my filter bubble, please.

Nice… until people find a way to game it, just as with any other accreditation system. Not the fault of the system though; it's just the way how some people are.

Meanwhile, I still wonder how those contacts in my LinkedIn network could have endorsed me for all those skills when we never had any chance of working together.

"Hey I know that guy was very good at programming, so he should automatically be good at #Matlab too!" when my Matlab experience was just guiding a friend of mine around Matlab documentation i.e. how to look for things (I gave up halfway though as I got busy with my own commitments).

Strange, no one is going to endorse me for #NumPy / #SciPy   though. I guess it's not so popular outside academia? No, I don't have that many experience with GNU #Octave as well, but I sure know how to do some matrix manipulations; in fact that's how I got accustomed to #julialang   quickly. And yeah, I don't do #R neither, but I figure I could get used to it quickly too.

I can't just type in the name of the entry for dropdown menus where the entries are not using latin characters. Fortunately PgUp/PgDn still works, but I hope #whatwg  would consider adding some pronunciation key as an attribute to the <option> tag so that I could just type them away. No idea how to deal with homonyms though.

gprof2dot (https://github.com/jrfonseca/gprof2dot) creates very nice looking call graph using graphViz. I'm using it for #python , but it's also usable for OProfile, Valgrind etc. By the way, I use xdot to view my dot files.

Hooray to my first peeve with #firefox : Vertical scrollbar that ignores Fitt's law. Watch as I click and drag the very small space on the right of the scrollbar (of a maximized Firefox window) and wonder why it doesn't budge.

I didn't know TED offered transcripts for their videos. At least now I don't have to get annoyed when people link to TED videos to make a point.

I was about to grouch on the slowness of #SSL connection to #Google sites, but somehow the latest update to #Chrome 41.0.2272.118 seems to have fixed it.

(putting hashtags on keywords make posts on SNS sites look like a wiki article)

Oh well, might as well do a testdrive of the all new #Firefox (last used regularly maybe three years ago?). Before that, let me confirm why I left for Chrome:
1: No more Flash player updates means no Nicovideo :( But seems to have been solved by https://github.com/i-rinat/freshplayerplugin
2: Frequent lockups of whole browser i.e. "hangs". Probably due to the single-processed nature of the application. Sometimes I wish the OS are given more say on what to do with recalcitrant threads.

What I missed when I left Firefox:
A: The omniscient Awesome Bar! Seemed to know what I'm looking for almost all of the time.
B: The Bookmarks/History browser, which was very accessible.

My first impression after reinstalling: Wow, they've really changed a lot of the UI. I was afraid that they got rid of the bookmarks/history manager, but it is still there, just hidden under another extra layer of indirection. Nothing I can't live without.

Now, time to restore all those add-ons and bookmarks.
