A major part of the logistics industry is unorganized where many of the fleet owners continue to rely on traditional, paper-based system to oversee their fleet operations. What would take to address this skepticism towards technology-based solutions?. Practical experience of a software solution that addresses the main challenges of this industry can be an eye opener. Amongst the many, issues that which rank high for the Logistics industry are – Heavy fuel expenses, Vehicle and Asset Theft, non-trace ability of process and the inefficiency to make data driven decisions. A comprehensive software that harnesses the benefits of technology and offers GPS/GPRS tracking of Consignment and Vehicles, efficient management of preventive maintenance activities with appropriate alerts and reminders, provides the business with advanced tools to track driving behavior, engine performance and miles traveled, effective planning of vehicle/driver usage to ensure optimal utility and minimize idle time, complete asset tracking to ensure that every vehicle is accounted for, is all that would take to welcome them in to the world of Technology based Fleet Management Solution. An efficient solution would help you review daily operation activities, monitor operational costs, effectively oversee workforce productivity and provide you detailed analytical reports to make data-driven decisions. Comprehensive Fleet management Software could be the small step towards the Giant Leap.

The Indian auto industry accounts for 7.1 per cent of the country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). The Overall automobile exports have witnessed a tremendous growth of about 15.81% every year starting from April 2017. The contribution of the automotive industry in India’s GDP is expected to grow 25% by 2022 from 15% currently, with production of Electric Vehicles, the new talk of the town. India aims to produce around 6-7 million of electric vehicles by 2020 under the FAME (FASTER ADOPTION AND MANUFACTURING OF HYBRID & ELECTRIC VEHICLES) Scheme.

India’s electric vehicle market is projected to grow at a CAGR of over 37%, during FY2018-FY2023. Government’s incentive schemes to encourage adoption of environment-friendly electric vehicles, growing consumer inclination towards electric vehicles, concerns over harmful effects of air pollution, and huge investments by various OEMs for developing more affordable and premium electric vehicles, all contributing to this phenomenal growth rate predicted. Some of the major companies operating in the country’s electric vehicle market include Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt. Ltd., Mahindra Electric Mobility Limited, Tata Motors Limited, Volvo India Private Limited, and BMW AG to name a few. Mahindra & Mahindra (M & M) is planning to make an additional investment of Rs 500 crore (US$ 77.23 million) for expanding the capacity for electric vehicles in its plant in Chakan. All these development plans and initiatives have resulted in significant hiring growth for the auto industry. There is great potential in automation and robotics that the Indian Auto industry could address. Availability of skilled labour at low cost, robust R&D centres and low cost steel production will accelerate the growth of this sector in the years to come.

Goods transported through Logistics providers varies from customer to customer. A uniform way of charging for logistics services will not work across customers. Customer specific Tariff contracts ensure customer satisfaction and maximum retention.

India will witness investments close to Rs 50,000 crore for creation of warehousing facilities across the country between 2018 and 2020. This is expected to create around 20,000 jobs at different levels of specification and specialization. Many reasons can be attributed for this, two of the most important ones being - The implementation of GST, and the rapid growth of e-commerce. The e-commerce firms are expected to invest up to nearly $2 billion in the next three years in infrastructure, warehousing, and logistics.

The growth in warehousing sector is aptly supported by development in technology. Advancement in automatic identification and data capture (AIDC) technology has ensured optimum utilization of resources. Real Time Locating Systems, RFID, WMS and other IT-driven solutions are also effectively increasing the competitiveness of the warehousing industry.

The potential of the warehouse sector is huge, both organized and unorganized are expected to enter the market soon. With Key factors like better infrastructure, efficient use of technology, manpower and initiatives like “Make in India” playing a major role, the warehousing industry is expected to contribute majorly to the growth of Indian economy.

To reduce costs that you incur as a part of conducting business, you must understand where your business generates costs. Production industries must track not only the cost of the individual item, but also each additive feature or activity that adds cost to the end product or increases the value of the product. Your business requirements decide the optimal costing technique for your industry.
