This is a terrible report. As far the topic is concerned, my concern is the negative effect on foreign relations this issue has. If you grow up around this, and see a foreign military and its contractors take these actions (even if they had proper justification, which we know they most likely do), would you grow up to admire and support that foreign nation, or would you view them as a violent and harmful intruder? We have a tendency (though, not in all cases, I'm aware) to build terrible relationships with occupied nations based on the perspective their citizens have of our presence. Those bad relationships mature to successive generations of hatred and violence spewed from both sides of the wall.
Do I have a suggestion? A solution? No, I don't; not many people have one to offer, otherwise we would have resolved this by now. We can't simply abandon our posts without threat of retaliation from previously seeded hatred, but continuing the current course just serves to further seed that hatred. We are in a continual, delicate balance that is in nobody's favor, and yet it's in everyone's best interests to keep it from collapsing. And what's annoying is that you can't be on either side of this issue without seeming like A) an idiot who hates war without considering the justification or B) an idiot who supports war without considering the long term diplomatic effects.
