No one is born with a fear of the dentist
We frequently hear comments like, “my child was so excited to come today!” and “we can’t wait to come back!”  Believe it or not, they are, in fact, talking about a visit to the dentist. We believe that a child’s first and each subsequent visit to the dentist should be enjoyable and positive.  Our hope is that you feel at ease from the moment you enter our office and we make every effort to ensure that continues throughout your visit.

We recognize that the more prepared you feel for the visit, the better the experience will be.  Please feel free to browse our website, familiarize yourself with our office and staff, read from the resources we have provided and call us with any questions you have before your visit. Also, we ask that you help us make the experience a great one for your kiddo– we welcome any insights or suggestions you have for us as you go through the process.  Every child is different and you know your child best; thus, we need your partnership to do our best work.

Meet Flosser!
Flosser is our mascot here at Adventure Dental. He is a Costa Rican tree frog with lots of personality who likes to go on all kinds of adventures. The inspiration for Flosser came as our doctors "hopped" around the world on their own adventures. At one point, Dr. Todd was in Costa Rica climbing a volcano, thinking about what to name their new dental practice. He came up with some lame name and ran the idea past a couple of teenagers who were hiking in the same area. They gave him the thumbs-down and as they talked further, the idea that the doctors wanted each child's experience to be like an "adventure" came up....and the teenagers gave their stamp of approval, giving rise to the name Adventure Dental. As he continued through Costa Rica, he decided they needed a mascot and, seeing a million frogs, deemed that an appropriate symbol--thus born Flosser!

Baby & Me
At what age should I bring my child to the dentist for the first time? We are asked this a lot, and the answer is “1 year or 6 months after they get their first tooth.” Why so early? Two reasons:

1. Prevention and parent education—from age 6 months to 2 years, your child is in what is called “the window of infectivity” during which they are developing all the bacteria they will have in their mouth for the rest of their lives! Therefore, we want to help you foster good habits at the earliest age to prevent problems in the future.

2. Child’s comfort—the sooner they become comfortable visiting our office, sitting in the chair and letting us peek in their mouth, the easier each subsequent visit will be. We want them to like it here!

Now, you are not a “bad parent” if your child is older than this and has not yet been to the dentist, but we encourage you to make their first appointment soon. First visit is FREE for kids under 2!
