Tuna is not tuna, and white tuna is instead a poisonous fish (escolar)

What’s on your plate?

If you order tuna at a restaurant in the U.S., chances are half the time you’ll be getting another fish in its place. A shocking report released by Oceana founds that 1/3 of fish being sold in New York City shops and restaurants is mislabeled and switched for fish that most of the times is cheaper, more threatened or even harmful to eat. Never buy a flight from a codeshare partner instead of from the airline that operates it. United just cancelled on me a flight operated by Air Canada, even though the Air Canada flight still exists. In other words, Air Canada, the operator, kicked out the United passengers off that flight.

It seems that this was caused by a glitch, which resulted in a valid flight to disappear from United's reservation system. Even though United recognized that it may be a glitch, it is still not possible to keep the original booking. Their advice: wait a few more days and maybe the flight appears again.

Here is what my colleagues are organizing in their spare time...

A few weeks ago, we hosted the first Ship Wars Programming Competition in our Waterloo office. The brainchild of a Google engineer, Ship Wars drew more than 40 local engineers to Google to program their computer spacecrafts and battle them out in our own virtual Star Wars-like competition. For more on what's going on with our friendly neighbors to the north, follow +Google Canada.

Even Google does not have 1000 employees in Canada. There are many small offices in Canada of global companies that have more than 1000 employees overall (but not in Canada).

Scientists recommend restricting soda consumption to over 17, in line with alcohol. This is because sugar slowly destroys the liver, like alcohol, and induces many metabolic diseases (this has nothing to do with calories, but with the chemical composition of sugar which makes it toxic).

My Google+ results were already better than organic search results for many queries. So I am pretty excited that now I can get all that from the main Google search box

Local ingredients, huge portions, large selection of drinks (like the best freshly squeezed pineapple juice ever, interesting teas, coffees, etc). Very busy place, nice view. Don't go with fine dining expectations though -- they forgot to bring my tea, and the greek salad had a funny dressing.

Service was good, but the meal was not worth the money. I have never eaten such bad seared ahi tuna, in fact, I did not know that ahi tuna can be bad until I had a meal at this restaurant. The salad was good, as it was from the local additions menu, not the main menu. At this restaurant you get mall quality food at fine dining prices. Much better options are available on Big Island for the same price.

Best greek restaurant: all dishes are of excellent quality. Reserve well in advance as this place is always booked full.

One of the only farms in the world that breeds seahorses. The tour was very interesting, explaining the challenges that they had being the first to attempt this, and the processes they developed. This tour is really good for kids as well as adults. Note that it is a farm, not an aquarium or museum. And you get to touch a seahorse!

I used to order all the time food from this restaurant, but recently the quality of the food has gone down. The "tzatziki" does not seem fresh. "Chicken souvlaki" seems to be done in a hurry, etc. I would no longer recommend this place.
