How to set up your Chrome Web Store app listing to show your developer/brand name, as against the default - your website's domain name.

Pros: Link to your app's webpage
Cons: Can't do inline installation

This has annoyed me for a while.  It seems strange that they offer no way to show the verified domain alongside the developer's display name.

Weight has gone from 75.4kg in late April, to 80.1kg today. 5kg up in 2 months. Total running distance for May and June, combined, is less than that for any one of the previous four months! Last week was the first one this year with zero activity, of any…

Splash/Launch screens in mobile apps are evil. They're ugly, useless, cluttered with logos, and delay user interaction.

Here's some thoughts on how (not) to do splash/launch screens in mobile apps.

Here's to SuperDads everywhere

Our powers are the stuff of comic books to be hidden under beds and read by flashlight. Our exploits live on to be told and retold in hushed whispers (with the occasional giggle or snort of derision)
We are faster than speeding bullets (except for the one time we couldn’t get to our 8 month old son as he rolled off the bed in super slow motion).
We are more powerful than locomotives (HO Gauge), able to leap tall buildings (those made of lego, lincoln logs or wooden blocks) in a single bound.
We can read minds, predict the future, heal, shape-shift, fly, stop time, and have many other super powers that we keep secret to be revealed only when absolutely necessary. (To be truthful, we are not even aware of many of these powers until a dire situation arises.)
We have belts filled with supertools,  pockets filled with superstuff and garages filled with boxes of superjunk.
We have x-ray vision and the ability to disperse any size crowd with a single blast of (ahem) gas.
We have powers and abilities far beyond those of mortal men (where our children are concerned). We can change the course of mighty rivers (during rainstorms for boats made of newspaper), bend steel in our bare hands (or at least fix bicycles and assemble all those toys on all those Winter Holiday Eves or mornings).
And yes, we have our disguises as we go off to our day jobs; mild-mannered Clark Kents or high-pressured Tony Starks.
But, alas, we have our kryptonite…those weaknesses that bring us to our knees and make us vulnerable. And while we hope those moments are fleeting, we pray in our SuperDad superhearts that you see us as the caring, love-filled heroes we aspire to be... tough and strong, needing you to feel safe and protected…but that, when all is said and done, that vulnerability can be it’s own super power.
And that in the end, our love for our children conquers all.

Happy Father's Day

Race, Hate & Flags

Just over a week ago, I was wondering on the ideological significance of someone displaying an apartheid era flag.

And then the same flag appears on the jacket of a guy who goes on a mindless killing spree at a black church in the US.

Living & riding in the middle ring. Also running, hiking & swimming. Interested in Tech-Media-Telecom, and consumer marketing.
Introduction
Sleep, eat, read, think, spout, cycle. Recycle.

Was dragged to a vacation in Africa, so capped it off by scaling Mt. Kilimanjaro. And fell in love with the continent.
Was hurt badly by cobbles in Flanders on vacation, so went back to ride as many as Tour of Flanders could throw at me. And fell in love with the region.

  • Intermittent, aspiring, failing entrepreneur.
  • Hesistant, hopefully ex-, half-decent management consultant.
  • Analytical, non-breaking, infrequent tech-media-telecom blogger.
  • Curious about consumer behaviour and consumer marketing.
  • Overweight cyclist, recent runner, in-love-with-mountains hiker, and training-to-be triathlete.
  • Thrive in chaos. Get bored bit too easily.
  • Patient Optimist.

One Life. Living It.
Bragging rights
Saw Africa from it's highest point, rode the cobbled climbs of Ronde van Vlaanderen.

Under Discovery.
Skills
Keeping my head about when others are losing theirs.

Great (and only) local burrito joint. Grub is quite good, but not great. Service can vary from OK to excellent depending on who's behind the bar. I'm just glad to finally have a (soon 3) decent Burrito place on Guildford.

Our first experience in self catering cottages, almost in middle of nowhere, and couldn't have chosen a better place. Beautiful, peaceful location, always helpful hosts, perky pine martens, private access to the Loch, and plenty of hikes close by. Loved it!
