The official ending of the Battle of Stalingrad on February 2nd 1943 signalled the turning of the tide during World War 2. In derailing the seemingly invincible Nazi juggernaut, the Red Army had not only earned a propaganda victory in the ideological struggle between Nazism and Soviet-style Communism, it also put to rest Hitlerian assumptions of the racial supremacy of the so-called Aryan over the Slav.

Stalin, who in 1934 had invited the Nazis to ponder over the fact that "all the 'barbarians', united against the common enemy and brought Rome down with a crash", was himself at the helm of a coalition of nationalities who fought for the Soviet Union and eventually defeated the German Wehrmacht. In this piece I argue that it is time to put to rest the popular myth surrounding Lt. Colonel Adekunle Fajuyi that he elected to die with Maj.-Gen. Aguiyi-Ironsi, during the bloody mutiny of July 29th 1966.

But, as explained in the text, such a historical revision should not alter the perception of a man of honour and courage.

Fajuyi was re-buried 53 years ago today in his hometown seven months after his and Ironsi's brutal assassination. I have embedded brief footage of his state funeral.

A terrific story about Muhammad Ali and Elvis Presley: both Capricorns, both Southerners and both icons in their respective fields of boxing and rock 'n' roll, as told by Ron Lipton.

It is fifty years ago today since Frankie DePaula's world light heavyweight title bout against the champion Bob Foster. [ https://goo.gl/Ucs4nS ] It is a fight still bedevilled by a great deal of conjecture and rumour.
