Lake Texcoco (Present Day Mexico City)
I was browsing around Google Earth today and I found myself over Mexico City. This made me think about how the City literally replaced the entire Lake Texcoco over time. Due to flooding hundreds of years ago the Spanish drained the lake which has had huge consequences today with Cities water supply. What I find most interesting is just the general appearance of the landscape. It's amazing the human footprint over what once was an entire body of water. I found a rough image of the lake (Source: http://www.incubatorgames.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/Lake_Texcoco.jpg) and linked it in an overlay within Google Earth. The overlay isn't exact but does a pretty good job. I took 5 comparative snapshots that can be flipped through so the perspective on the change can be seen. Amazing, Check it out below.
