"ExxonMobil is a very large corporation that really sees itself as an independent sovereign in the world."

From eerily smart yet inscrutable AI to corporations edging out governments for power, here comes that cyberpunk future teen-me thought would be so cool to live in. 😅😧

Want some good news for a change? Look past the clickbait title and horrifying first few minutes for a video about how philanthropy and science are on track to save millions of lives.

This video isn't new, but it is fitting for anyone who feels they lost something important in November or in all of 2016. Be sure to stick around for the end.

There have just been big improvements to No Man's Sky, and it's currently on sale on Steam and elsewhere. If the player backlash of "not enough to do" and other complaints kept you away, this may be a good time to give it a try. If you played and found it lacking, you may want to give it a second chance.

This is a great 9-minute primer on the history of American involvement in world affairs. I feel like I understand the origins and purpose of the UN, Wold Bank, and NATO better now.

I wish, though, that they'd spent some time discussing modern global threats. For example, modern post-soviet Russia's military and economic aggressions toward Europe and former Soviet states, the growing economic and diplomatic strength of China's authoritarian communist/capitalist system, extremist terrorism of all sorts, and the rise of authoritarian political parties in Europe and elsewhere.

A video about how US humanitarian aid also serves our economic and diplomatic goals would also be great to see, since this appears to be turning into a series.

11 reasons the future will be amazing. I particularly appreciate the historical comparisons that give some perspective on how far we've already come:

“Right now, a Masai warrior on a mobile phone in the middle of Kenya has better mobile communications than the president did 25 years ago. If he’s on a smart phone using Google, he has access to more information than the U.S. president did just 15 years ago.” — Peter Diamandis
