What will the #AndroidN -release be named? We’re nut tellin’ you yet.

But we are sharing the preview earlier than ever. Check out some of the new APIs and features in #AndroidN , more to come over the next few months: http://goo.gl/lSgosj

We’re doing things a bit differently for #AndroidN . By making it easier for you to try out the developer previews, and giving all of us more time to tweak and iterate, we hope to create a stronger platform that’s fine tuned for the billions of people that use Android everyday: https://goo.gl/wpasJw

We just previewed #AndroidStudio 2.2 at #io16, another big update to the IDE designed to help you code faster with smart new tooling features built in. One of the headline features is our rewritten layout designer with the new constraint layout. In addition to helping you get out of XML to do your layouts visually, the new tools help you easily design for Android’s many great devices. Once you’re happy with a layout, we do all the hard work to automatically calculate constraints for you, so your UIs will resize automatically on different screen sizes. We’ll be diving into more detail on this update at 10AM PT tomorrow in “What’s new in Android Development Tools”, livestreamed from Google I/O:

https://goo.gl/vM3vSH
In this session we will provide an in depth tour of the Android development tools and take a closer look at everything new - along with tips and tricks for getting the most out of them!

Building for billions
Announcing developers.google.com/billions.

Over half the world’s smartphone users access the Internet over a 2G connection. Even more may want to access content while entirely offline — whether between stations on the subway in Tokyo or to cope with a flakey connection in a rural part of Rajasthan.

To reach billions of users, developers must address core challenges: limited or intermittent connectivity, device compatibility, and high data costs. Today we’re unveiling developers.google.com/billions and related Android and Web resources to help developers deliver exceptional performance across a range of connections, data plans, and devices.

We’ll also be talking about this on stage every day at I/O - join us online or in-person:

+Chris P It's a fair point and we will review if it makes sense to reference it in a future revision. In general though, we're trying to encourage more usage of JobScheduler/GcmNetworkManager and if there are key use-cases missing, then update those APIs to include them.

Support vector drawables!

Android Support Library 23.2 now available!

Check out the blog post: http://goo.gl/b7x1aA
What does the 23.2 version mean? It means it is still based on API 23 (Marshmallow), but includes a large number of features over the previous 23.1.X releases:
- New support-vector-drawable and support-animated-vector-drawable Support Libraries
- A new Theme.AppCompat.DayNight as the base for a single theme that supports both a light and dark (night) theme
- BottomSheetBehavior, BottomSheetDialog, and BottomSheetDialogFragment have been added to the Design Library
- MediaBrowserServiceCompat backports API 21+ APIs back to the Support v4 library, bringing an easy way to connect and browse your media service as well as integrate with Android Auto and Android Wear
- RecyclerView adds support for auto-measurement, resizing itself based on its contents
- Custom Tabs adds a bottom bar for additional actions
- Leanback for Android TV has significant improvements to the GuidedStepFragment

Check out the blog (http://goo.gl/b7x1aA) for all the details and download the Android Support Library from your SDK Manager!
