Optimizing Image loading with Object pooling included:
Yelp uses Glide for image rendering in ListViews.
Dynamically loaded images are a cornerstone of many Android applications. At Yelp, images are critical to how we connect consumers with great businesses. As network connections and device hardware have become more powerful, the quantity and quality of images that users have come to expect has ...

I have to agree with Jake about the Seek writeup...sentences like this seem downright silly: "First, we were able to use the paper models to work out the correct required elevation on specific screens — much easier to do using paper models than on screen."

Maybe for someone with little development experience. For anyone else, it's going to be a thousand times faster to mock up a layout and tweak the elevation values in Android Studio to their liking (changing a value and recompiling is certainly faster than messing around with paper). And there's plenty of sample apps (both Google and 3rd party) that can provide guidance on what those values should be as well.

That's just one of numerous examples (the lighting rig seemed unnecessarily over-the-top) where it really did seem like they were just creating something to be shared by Google (or to be less cynical, just to have some fun with paper) more so than actually sharing a process that would really add value to development and be worth considering.

Check out how Shifty Jelly was able to drive double digit sales growth for the leading podcast app on Google Play, Pocket Casts, by adopting #materialdesign and expanding to new platforms with #AndroidAuto and #AndroidWear

Scanning…

I'm really excited to see the new fingerprint API⁰ in Android M so made this little exploration demonstrating how you might prompt for a fingerprint and then show success or failure.  I'm using a couple of neat tricks provided by AnimatedVectorDrawable¹:

● Morph the paths of parts of the fingerprint to create the tick/cross.
● Use a copy of the fingerprint and a moving clip-path to create the scanning effect.

There are quite a few moving parts but you can find the code here:

My new S6 theme. Along with Now Launcher, Google keyboard, Messenger for SMS, I'm having less and less Nexus withdrawal.
The first Material Design inspired theme called 'Material' is now available on the Theme store for the Samsung Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 edge.
