What we can learn from a "third world country"!
Bus from Ibarra to Quito, Ecuador
Time to drive in a car = 2.5 hours
Transit time in a bus = 2.5 hours
Cost = $2.50
Frequency = every 10 minutes 24 hours a day

Bus from Charlotte, NC to Asheville, NC
Time to Drive in a car = 2.5 hours
Transit time in a bus= 5.5 hours
Cost = $38.70
Frequency = 3 times a day.

Hmmm. Turns out it was cheaper to rent a car one way.

How much the ecuadorian government wants their citizens to buy cars and oil: near 0%
How much the american government ...
^^

I hear gas is about $1.50 a gallon. I'm hoping to take my motorcycle when I go so I can have the liberty of travel on my own time. It's going to be an adventure and one to document...

+Enrique Vega Very true. Last I saw it was 1.46 a gallon. The government subsides the cost of both gasoline and natural gas. We were paying just 2.25 for a large tank to heat our stove.

I'm from that third world country and I always tried to stay away from any of these buses. Very irresponsible drivers. Almost every week you read about accidents caused by them.
