Active Adventures NZ guide Ken on the BBQ

Get ready for a metaphor…

It takes all the right ingredients to bake a cake.

Is this a really bad metaphor? I think so.

But sometimes a cliché is a cliché for a good reason (is that cliché?). Thing is, I couldn’t think of a better way to sum up the role that food plays in an adventure in a far away place, or an adventure anywhere for that matter. And people take their food preferences, and meal experiences VERY seriously. I know I do. My own maniacal pickiness when it comes to food is one of the reasons why we pay close attention to preparing home cooked meals on an Active Adventures trip. Life is too short to eat average food, so why do it on the trip of a lifetime?

Home Cooked Meals. There are a few ingredients that we've stuck to over the years, that are still making the "Active Adventures Cake" a winner.

About Nepal
A bit about Nepal Everest Base Camp Nepal reading and video list
Nepal is an independent country located in between Tibet and India, nestled between the mountain wall of the Himalayas and the low northern plains of India. At less than 150,000 square kilometres, Nepal isn’t a big country, but it packs quite a punch in terms of landscapes and culture.
This dramatic landscape that rises from 150 metres at its southern border to 8848 metres at the summit of Mt Everest provides an environment for an amazing variety of flora, fauna and people.

Matamata - home of the Hobbiton Movie Set

In a sleepy little village just two hours drive from #Auckland there in lies a little town called #Matamata – home of the #Hobbiton movie set. It has more than 44 unique hobbit holes, including Bad End (Bilbo’s house).

Matamata is famous for dairying and fine thoroughbred horses, it’s beautiful green pastures were a definite spot to portray Hobbiton and #TheShire

Just east of the township is some of the #NorthIsland of #NewZealands highest waterfalls, #WairereFalls , with a plunging 153m. Embrace the natural scenery and also take in some of the most amazing panoramic views of the Waikato region.

GOOD TIMES TO ALL G+ FRIENDS
Torres del Paine National Park - Chile
Torres del Paine National Park is a national park encompassing mountains, glaciers, lakes, and rivers in southern Chilean Patagonia. The Cordillera del Paine is the centerpiece of the park. It lies in a transition area between the Magellanic sub polar forests and the Patagonian Steppes. The park is located 112 km (70 mi) north of Puerto Natales and 312 km (194 mi) north of Punta Arenas. The park borders Bernardo O'Higgins National Park to the west and the Los Glaciares National Park to the north in Argentine territory.
Torres del Paine National Park is part of the Sistema Nacional de Áreas Silvestres Protegidas del Estado de Chile (National System of Protected Forested Areas of Chile). In 2003, it measured approximately 242,242 hectares. It is one of the largest and most visited parks in Chile. The park averages around 150,000 visitors a year, of which 60% are foreign tourists, who come from all over the world.
The park is one of the 11 protected areas of the Magallanes Region and Chilean Antarctica (together with four national parks, three national reserves, and three national monuments). Together, the protected forested areas comprise about 51% of the land of the region (6,728,744 hectares).
The Torres del Paine are the distinctive three granite peaks of the Paine mountain range or Paine Massif. They extend 2,850 meters above sea level, and are joined by the Cuernos del Paine. The area also boasts valleys, rivers such as the Paine, lakes, and glaciers. The well-known lakes include Grey, Pehoé, Nordenskiöld, and Sarmiento. The glaciers, including Grey, Pingo and Tyndall, belong to the Southern Patagonia Ice Field.

We spent our honeymoon in October 2008 traveling through New Zealand on an Active Adventures guided tour. It was an amazing trip! We had a small group and three awesome and experienced guides. The photos from the trip are beautiful! There were so many great experiences that my husband and I still talk about and joke about. For instance, our kayak experience was a hoot! It was calm as could be in the lagoon, and then coming across to get to land we hit a headwind and we paddled and paddled like mad and were getting nowhere together. It was so hilarious we could not stop laughing! We are an active couple, and a social couple and this tour was magnificent. The guides were beyond incredible. They made the trip even better with their fun personalities, positive spirit and wonderful knowledge! A shout out and big thank you to Ken, Tim and Zoe, from Nadine & Bob!

The word "Amazing" does not do justice to the trip and experience we had with Active Adventures. We are a family that has traveled the world and never used a tour company. Active Adventures created a unique experience that you can't achieve on your own. Extremely knowledgeable guides along with a great travel plan allowed us to have a once in a lifetime experience in New Zealand. We look forward to our next Active Adventure trip.

Everyone fantasizes about their "dream trip", but Active Adventures delivers it. The small group camaraderie, the guides who know their craft and can still cook fabulous meals, the off the beaten path locations, every detail is planned and carried out smoothly. And, of course, there is New Zealand herself.

I want to take a minute to rave about my experiences with Active Adventures. It's been a few years since I traveled with them. I went to New Zealand on their tours of the South and North islands and the following year I traveled to Patagonia. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and helpful, and the guides are amazing, especially our bilingula guide Cynthia in South America. We went on some unforgettable hikes and adventures. Most of my traveling companions were great people. The food was good and the staff did everything to accommodate our needs. I was happy with the places we stayed - not fancy but just what we needed. As a single traveler, I appreciated that they did not charge a single supplement but found me roommates. I look forward to returning to both New Zealand and South America and hope to travel with Active again. I have recommended them to friends and would encourage anyone wanting to get outdoors in the areas where they travel to sign up now!

I had a Fantastic time on my Active Adventure New Zealand trip! Perfect way to travel as a single women I thought.. Everything was organized and I felt at ease knowing I was taken care of... I feel as though I was able to see all the best sights in New Zealand and LOVED the hiking that we did every day.. Our guides Dave and Amanda were amazing guides and I had a wonderful group of other people to travel with as well.. I would definitely consider booking another trip like this again... Only a few small things I would change.. Definitely more time hiking, less time eating! Although that was fun as well... Aloha from Kauai

My wife and I have done two New Zealand tours with Active - One in the North Island and one in the South Island. The guides were terrific and the adventures were fantastic. We had a great time and wouldn't tour with anyone else!
