4 Day Inca Trail Prices

Peru's 4 Day Classic Inca Trail Guided Hiking Tour Itinerary

Follow in the footsteps of the Incas on Peru's Classic Inca Trail hike to Machu Picchu, on our all-inclusive guided tour.

The Classic Inca Trail is a four-day hike that finishes dramatically at Machu Picchu early on the fourth morning, giving you precious time to explore the misty ruins before the tour buses arrive. Along the way you'll be hiking through vast expanses of farmland with enormous cactuses springing up alongside the trail, passing mysterious Inca ruins that lie quietly on the hillsides, and wind your way through lush, cloudy jungle, surrounded by the flutter of hummingbirds.

Read on to look over the day-to-day itinerary for our 7 (or 14) day 'Jaguar' trip which explores Cuzco and the Sacred Valley before setting off on our Classic Inca Trail guided tour to Machu Picchu. Stay on board and journey further to discover Lake Titicaca and the Amazon Basin too - we're locals in Peru and we have the absolute best bilingual guides, so we'll show you Peru's 'hidden gems' and put you in touch with the local culture like no other tour company can.

Best time to hike to Machu Picchu

Best time to visit Machu Picchu | Seasons and weather | Best time of the day to enter | Machu Picchu ticket availability | Important dates to consider | 1-day hike to Machu Picchu | Multi-day hikes to Machu Picchu | Machu Picchu guided tours

Peru's Machu Picchu is renowned as one of the most popular and most visited UNESCO World Heritage Sites in the world. With the amount of annual visitors making their way to the site, it's no wonder numbers are closely monitored and limited to 2500 per day.

The Incas called Machu Picchu "old mountain" or "old peak" has been a place of mystery and intrigue for archaeologists and explorers alike for hundreds of years. It can be found on many intrepid travellers' bucket lists, and is one of a few favorite stops in Peru on our Jaguar trip that offers the extra "wow" factor!

So what is the best time to go to Machu Picchu?

Amazing experience, trip of a lifetime! We had a small group and our guides balanced everyone's abilities so well. The meals were amazing and the Nelson Lakes National Park blew me away! At the start of the trip we were all strangers, but our love for the mountains brought us together, we shared stories and laughter and I feel like I've made friends for life. Thanks Active!

It is so, so easy to write a great review of these folks. My wife and I spent two weeks with them in December 2015, and a gang of walkers, kayakers, cyclists (well, we also included rock climbers, but didn't do that on this trip), and wine drinkers. THIS is the way to do the South Island. Vanessa and Tess drove us to gorgeous places without gangs of tourists, cooked real good food, and even played some of my music on the bus/van speakers as we zoomed around the country. We swam with seals, walked with weird local birds, and intensely hiked up to high country huts. They drove. You don't wanna drive, at least not your first trip. You wanna look. Steph and I are pretty active. Some of our group were a little less compulsive, so the group split into two for a few days, and half of us packed gear up the big hills, while others paddled. Do let your organizer know how fit you are. As you know from reading their materials, lodgings are not 5-star, but they are clean and comfortable -- Remember, much of the S Island boonies' infrastructure is the USA in the 1950's. Food is good, sometimes real good. But, again, not 5-star, or you would be on a Nat Geo trip, at twice the price and half the activity, wouldn't you? Ah yes.....Their coffee each morning was to die for. They bought from a local roaster from Queenstown or CC. And, of course, we never lacked for superb wine. All those pictures posted on their website: Yep. Real. THAT will be your trip if you hire these folks. Steph and I are happy to discuss our experiences with Active if you want to email or call us. Just ask the person you are emailing with at the company to give you my email, and we can connect. We live in DC. (They did that for us as we were deciding on how to see the country, and a couple of calls to DC locals who were still in Kiwi withdrawal did the trick for us.) BTW, for your flight down, Air NZ runs one of the loveliest lounges in the airport world, at LAX. So, if you use your United miles to upgrade to Air NZ biz class lie flat seats, or spring for round trip paid biz class lie flat seat tickets, your vacation will seriously start when you hit that lounge. And, thanks to Qantas, AA and United, airfare prices will be dropping as all these folks compete with Air NZ for your business. In any event, do try to get a good sleep on the way over there, whether you fly direct from N America, or you substantially cut your costs by buying two loops, with Hawaii as your pivot point.

Hi Alan! Wow, it's so nice of you to write this review - we really appreciate it. There are some great take-out points there - areas for us to improve, which is always very welcome. I had a Fantastic time on my Active Adventure New Zealand trip! Perfect way to travel as a single women I thought.. Everything was organized and I felt at ease knowing I was taken care of... I feel as though I was able to see all the best sights in New Zealand and LOVED the hiking that we did every day.. Our guides Dave and Amanda were amazing guides and I had a wonderful group of other people to travel with as well.. I would definitely consider booking another trip like this again... Only a few small things I would change.. Definitely more time hiking, less time eating! Although that was fun as well... Aloha from Kauai

My Rimu trip of December, 2015 exceeded all of my expectations. New Zealand is truly a magical place to visit and seeing and experiencing it with Active Adventures made it a trip of a lifetime for me. Our guides (and driver and cook) Vanessa and Tess were part parent and part coach who saw to every detail, pushing me to accomplish every aspect of the trip in great humor. Coming from someone who loves and lives for the outdoors, I can't say enough great things about Active Adventures.

We spent our honeymoon in October 2008 traveling through New Zealand on an Active Adventures guided tour. It was an amazing trip! We had a small group and three awesome and experienced guides. The photos from the trip are beautiful! There were so many great experiences that my husband and I still talk about and joke about. For instance, our kayak experience was a hoot! It was calm as could be in the lagoon, and then coming across to get to land we hit a headwind and we paddled and paddled like mad and were getting nowhere together. It was so hilarious we could not stop laughing! We are an active couple, and a social couple and this tour was magnificent. The guides were beyond incredible. They made the trip even better with their fun personalities, positive spirit and wonderful knowledge! A shout out and big thank you to Ken, Tim and Zoe, from Nadine & Bob!

We were with Active in Southern Patagonia for the W trek, El Chalten, El Calafate, Perito Moreno Glacier, etc. Amazing trip made better by a patient and caring guide Sebastian. The scenery is unmatched and we were well taken care of from start to finish. Guides are knowledgable, allow you to take in the experience at your pace, and helpful in many, many ways. Our tour group was also a pleasure - great people who I hope to see again. Go ACTIVE and you will not be sorry.
