Here's a photo from one of the lion mating sequences we got to see in Africa. I'll have to share some of the other shots later on. Here's an interesting fact. How do lions die of natural causes? Well, they end up wearing out their teeth towards the end of the their life and they end up starving to death.

I was processing some images for the website and I came across this winter shot from Bryce Canyon of the Sinking Ship. I happened to be there the same time as my friend Joshua Snow. I was photographing a different feature when the best light hit, but Joshua got a sweet shot of the Sinking Ship when it was even more enveloped in fog. Anyway, I hope you enjoy a nice cool image on a hot day!

We were treated to quite a sky a few days ago on our tour to South Coyote Buttes. These are the famous tepees of Cottonwood Cove. It's too bad we didn't get a sky like this a month ago when the foreground flowers were blooming! It's shots like this that make me appreciate the dynamic range of my Sony sensor. This is a single exposure capture. There's no way my Canon cameras would be able to do that!

The oryx were some of our favorite animals in Africa. They can survive in some of the harshest desert conditions, They have so many adaptations that help them thrive in the desert. To take this shot, I walked parallel to these 3 oryx trying to get them in the perfect backlight position. They will rarely run since it causes them to overheat, so they would just turn and look at me from time to time.

The Subway had flooded the day before we went, so the water was still pretty muddy. But the muddy water made for some nice effects like this long exposure below one of the falls. I don't think I would have liked this image as much had the water been clear.

Ok, one more canyoneering photo for today. This is a view not often seen from the Subway. My brother Paul was able to hold pretty still while getting pounded by water for this shot. The long exposure really makes it seem mystical!

Looking into the abyss. This is my new favorite waterfall in Zion. We ended up rappelling down to the bottom but there was too much spray and water current to photograph it well. I found I liked this angle from the top the best. And of course, my brother Paul was brave to peer over the edge!

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend! This is my favorite shot I've taken of the iconic Thor's Hammer. The sun had just risen above the dark clouds and reflected some gorgeous light back onto the hammer. I used a telephoto lens to help compress the hammer against the stormy clouds. Looking at a shot like this always feels good on a hot summer's day.

Some interesting rock formations surrounded by stormy skies. A little bit of light managed to pop through and give some nice foreground contrast.

Seeing it from above gives you more appreciation for the rugged terrain we have in Southern Utah.
