Members of the Center for Meteorite Studies recently participated in their own meteorite hunt!

The expedition was part of an experiment to quantify the chemical and isotopic effects of terrestrial weathering on a Martian meteorite. In particular, Center Post Doctoral Research Associate Alice Stephant will measure the hydrogen isotopic content of certain minerals (olivine, maskelynite, and phosphates) by Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry (SIMS), in order to evaluate the impact of terrestrial weathering on meteorites found in hot deserts.

Why Ban Plastic Water Bottles in National Parks?

The United States' national parks are popular. So popular, in fact, that the National Park Service is having significant challenges dealing with the waste generated by the hundreds of millions of people that make their way through 85 million acres of national park land every year.

"It is no accident that the members of Congress who have taken the most money from IBWA this cycle head their respective chambers' subcommittees with authority over [National Park Service] spending. Those same members of Congress are now some of the biggest proponents of the bottled water industry's agenda," DeRusha told Truthout.
Plastic bottles are a huge part of the waste littering America's national parks.

While you may never have been to Monument Valley, you likely have seen some of its buttes, canyons and rugged red mesas that have been used as backdrops in countless western movies.
Monument Valley Navajo Tribal Park contains many examples of Navajo cultural icons.

“We’re very excited to receive this grant,” said Gail Morris, coordinator of the Southwest Monarch Study. “Monarchs help the ecosystem and they’re also an indicator of how healthy our environment is by helping them increase their numbers and their density and habitat we can have them for future generations to enjoy.”
Tourists planning to visit Arizona state parks in the upcoming year may be lucky enough to see an increase in bright orange butterflies along their journeys.

To get in on the deal, pick up a pass at one of the four REI stores in Arizona (Paradise Valley, Tempe, Flagstaff and Tucson) from Nov. 19-23. Or, get one at the Arizona State Parks Outdoor Recreation Information Center at Interstate 17 and Pinnacle Peak Road from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. from Nov. 21-23.
For the second year, state parks are teaming up with REI stores to get people outside rather than in the malls.

The Pulitzer Prize-winning book and subsequent 1940 Oscar-winning movie made Route 66 the stuff of legend, which continues to intrigue us today.
In fact, Arizona touts the longest continuous stretch of uninterrupted two-lane asphalt grandeur: 158 miles stretching from just outside Ash Fork in the east to the Colorado River in the west.
Only in Arizona: Experience your own 'Mother Road' moment along the 158-mile stretch between Ashfork and the Colorado River near Topock

Route 66 was created in 1926 when the Bureau of Roads launched the nation’s first Federal highway system. It cobbled together and linked local, state and national roads. The U.S. Highway Association actively promoted the road and it quickly became popular as the shortest, most scenic route from Chicago to Los Angeles.
WILLIAMS, Ariz. — In several respects, the automobile was one of the most significant inventions of the twentieth century, but often overlooked and equally significant is the development of the roads those automobiles travelled upon.

My family was visiting AZ for a week. We enjoyed our tour of Montezuma Castle, Sedona, and Jerome. Our guide, Dan, was fantastic, very knowledgeable and friendly. Our only complaint is that the tour company told us to park in Tempe Inn and Suites and that they had had good luck there. We had a rock thrown through our vehicles window. The police told us that they have a lot of vandalism in that lot. My suggestion is to meet them at another location.

So sorry to hear about the vandalism that occurred to your auto. We will definitely change this pickup location for those customers who need to be picked up at this southern location. Thank you also for the nice comments about our guide Dan. I will let him know that you took time to mention him in such nice regards. Again, we are sorry about the window.

I was lucky to get a seat on the Southern Arizona Tour, offered by Across Arizona Tours. I was constantly learning new and interesting facts of Arizona. Leonardo, my guide, led a professional and quite entertaining tour. Leonardo, was very sensitive to the group's comfort and enjoyment. Without any hesitation, I would recommend Across Arizona Tours!

Last week I had company from out of town, and they were wanting to go to the Grand Canyon and Sedona. I have never been to either place and have lived in Phoenix for 15 years. We took the Grand Canyon tour on Thursday and the Sedona tour on Monday. They were both excellent. Our tour guide for both tours was Kim, she was very knowledge, and a very outgoing person. A few of rthe other passengers and I are now friends, and since the tour we have shared emails and pictures. I highly recommend "Across AZ Tours' you will not be disappointed.

Our Day trip to the Grand Canyon was awesome and amazing. For starters booking was easy and I was able to call company and get a person (Carole)everytime!! No recordings saying: press 1 for this and 2 for that! The entire trip was filled with indescribable panoramic views during travel while listening to our knowledgeable guide Kimberly. She was great and worked very hard accommodating all of us. Kimberly was the best! The entire trip was made so easy. Great stops as needed. The Canyon had Snow! Spectacular! Kimberly picked a great lunch stop. We stopped in Sonona for great pictures. We even got a look a narative of downtown since one of the tourist was picked up and dropped back in the heart of downtown. Just a great trip ..Thanks to across Arizona tours!!

Grand Canyon - March We had visitors from PA and they had never seen The Canyon. We all decided to take the tour with Across Arizona and what a great idea that was. They provide a professional tour with a wonderful guide. They gave us time to take pictures and stopped at a very nice restaurant with good food at a reasonable price. This is the way to see The Canyon. We are looking forward to taking another tour upon the next visit with our family. I would highly recommend Across Arizona Tour to anyone. Fun, friendly, and informative.
