Tuesday, March 8, is International Women’s Day. It’s a big deal in many countries; it usually passes by without notice in the U.S. This week, make International Women’s Day significant in your world by praying for women and girls: for widows whose cultures ignore them; for the 603 million women who live in countries where domestic violence is not a crime and also for those legally protected from domestic abuse but are battered anyway; for pregnant women infected by the Zika virus; for the empowerment of women who serve Christ in ministry vocations; for the woman who works all night to pay her pimp; for girls who are barred from going to school and for girls who are given away in marriage too young and may not go to school; for political systems that silence the voices and participation of women; for the poor, the landless, those whose hope is depleted; for all of God’s children everywhere, created in God’s image with beauty and unrealized potential…. Hear our prayers, O God, we pray. Christ, have mercy.
