A week ago, Henderson was lethargic, congested and having trouble eating. With the help of his excellent veterinary team, he’s now doing much better. One of his lower teeth had begun growing into the roof of his mouth. He was also very congested. After a tooth trim, being restarted on doxycycline, receiving nebulization treatments 1-2 times daily with albuterol, gentocin and saline, he’s now acting much closer to his old self again.

Unfortunately his urinalysis results show early signs of renal disease and he has intermittently displayed signs of cognitive decline. He’s being given Wellactin (which has high levels of Omega 3 fatty acids to help improve brain function) and a special form of acidopholis which may help slow the progression of his renal disease.

Henderson will be 2 years old next month. He’s no longer a spring chicken but at least his spry and spritely personality has, for the most part, returned. I feel super thankful he’s hanging in there and has shown significant improvement in some areas.

I’ve started a nursing care spreadsheet for Henderson. This helps me keep on top of all of his medications, treatments and supplements. I’ll also be checking his teeth twice weekly since they’re likely to grow too long again.
