The explanation as to why the Wise continually supply materials to be stored in the heart , as grain is stored, with a view to the making of bread. Because this is experience and not grain, man in his crudity does not customarily feel able to understand this great truth and secret.

The first stage towards knowledge is to familiarize disciples with the outward, factual, appearance of that knowledge, so that, preventing it from running into the wrong area of their minds, it might await development when the possibilities exist.

Knowledge, Imam Ghazali says - the goal of the Sufi - is that which supports life to such an extent that if its transmission were to be interrupted for three days the kernel of the individual dies, as someone would die if deprived of food, or a patient dies if deprived of medicine.

Dhun-Nun the Egyptian said, 'You can accompany our caravan only if you can first accept two things. One is that you will have to do things which you do not want to do. The other is that you will not be permitted to do things you desire to do. It is 'wanting' which stands between man and the Path of Truth. '

Counsels of Shaykh Bahaudin:

Counsels of Shaykh Bahaudin :
If you think too much of the man, you will think in a disproportionate manner about the activity. If you think too much about yourself, you will think wrongly about the man. If you think too much about the books, you will not be thinking correctly about other things. Use one as a corrective for the others.

Remember that perception and illumination will not at first be of such a character that you can say of them 'This is perception ' or 'This
