Chris Lawrence and I traveled up to Stacyville, Maine to shoot a panorama of the full moon setting over Mt. Katahdin this weekend. The weather didn’t cooperate with a haze over the mountain that made sharp photos of the moon impossible at sunrise, but after breakfast the clouds burned off as it started to warm up above 0°F and the brutal wind died down. We discovered this farm with a beautiful view while driving around and the landowner gave us permission to climb the hill behind his barn for a unique view of the mountain.

The third image is a 1.2 gigapixel panorama. The full size is 53,804 x 21,522px or 18.68 x 7.47 ft @ 240dpi when printed. You can zoom in and pan around here: http://www.aaronpriestphoto.com/panorama/2017/2017-03-12_SummitFarm/

Happy New Year!

Sunrise over Boulder Beach
Acadia National Park, Maine, October 4, 2016, 06:37

My buddy, Scott Stulberg, taught a fall workshop in Acadia National Park and I helped out as a guest instructor for a couple days. What a great group of people—we had a lot of fun! This is a single row panorama of sunrise at Boulder Beach. I kept it low key for an exposure because I didn’t want to overexpose the sun or sky and I liked the deep, rich colors of dawn’s first light on the cliffs and boulders, as well as the silhouette of the photographers to the left. The stitched image is 36372 x 7275 or ~265 megapixels and 152 x 30 inches as a print.

Camera settings: 70mm, f/18, ISO 64, 1/5 sec

Stitching data: 1 rows of 11 images

Equipment used: Nikon D810, Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8, Nodal Ninja RD16-II rotator, and Really Right Stuff TVC-34L tripod & panning head. RAW conversion via Lightroom, aligned via PTGui, and manually blended via masks in Photoshop. Planned with PhotoPills.

+JPEGmini is on sale again today and tomorrow if you've ever considered buying it and missed the Christmas sale. I use it almost every day and it has saved me over a terabyte of storage space and internet bandwidth over the years.
