For the Android developers who want to learn how to write for the myriad of devices available.
If you're a developer, it may be hard to keep up with all the different Android form factors these days. Watches, cars, Google Cast, phones and tablets all need their own UI and code. So Google built a reference app to show you the ropes.

I have been wondering how to do this. I have some motion detectors I could tie this into nicely.

PIR Motion Detector Push Notification for Raspberry Pi
Here is a simple Raspberry Pi project that uses the PIR motion sensor from a burglar alarm system to trigger mobile push notifications to iOS and Android apps.

Here is how it works
=================
~ I use a Push service called Pushover. I previously published a project that uses another provider called InstaPush. I ended up liking Pushover better.

~ I wanted to use a non 5V PIR sensor to show that it is safe to use 12V powered devices with Raspberry Pi as long as they use dry contacts.

~ When motion is detected by the PIR sensor, the red LED lights up on the board and an HTTP REST API call is made to the Pushover service to send a push notification (works with iOS and Android mobile devices).

The Python source code and step by step setup instructions can be found here: http://videos.cctvcamerapros.com/RPi-PIR.

Perhaps a few non-MS centric companies should offer hardware manufacturers money to put a sticker on their equipment that says "Alternative OS Certified!" if they don't require secure boot.

Linux News Here
Well it's on again. Operating System Lockout on Windows 10.

In my opinion OS lockout has always been the primary goal of m$.

At its WinHEC hardware conference in Shenzhen, China, #Microsoft talked about the hardware requirements for Windows 10. The precise final specs are not available yet, so all this is somewhat subject to change, but right now, Microsoft says that the switch to allow Secure Boot to be turned off is now optional. Hardware can be Designed for #Windows 10 and can offer no way to opt out of the Secure Boot lock down. #Linux
Windows 10 hardware must support Secure Boot and won't have to let you turn it off.

+Harvey Smith an yes you're right. Maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part. That really sucks. If this become prevalent, then it will make buying machines for installing Linux on them that much harder.

The Fred Rogers Company continues to make great kids programming like Daniel Tiger's Neighborhood.

Funny story: my brother-in-law's mom almost ran him over near Rollins College here in Winter Park.  Fortunately she didn't, but she was terrified that she could have been the one to kill Mr. Rogers.

This Starbucks is really nice and the inside is one of the nicest I have seen. Very surprising given the neighborhood it is in. Wifi is fast and there is plenty of seating.

This store does have a nice selection of gifts. I have been several times in the past few months, but am moving. On the day before my move, I bought four gifts, and asked if I could get them in different bags to give them, since all my gift supplies were packed. The clerk refused! How sad that saving a few pennies takes precedence over a small kindness.
