Hoffmeier (from essay titled, “Genesis 1-11 as History and Theology”):
“The general tenor of the book [of Genesis], and Gen 1-11 in particular, is intended to be thought of as describing real events. A piece of ancient literature concerning past events does not have to be recorded with the kind of historiographical precision that would be expected of a modern academic historian or journalist. The geographical clues provided in Gen 1-11 suggest that these events from an ancient past occurred...in a real world, a world recognizable to the ancient reader or narrator of the narratives.” (p. 58)

Wenham (from essay titled, “Genesis 1-11 as Protohistory”):
“[There are] good reasons for affirming that the stories of Genesis are like history in some respects. . . . These chapters contain stories that both illustrate important social and theological principles, as myths are often alleged to do, yet they also tell of unique occurrences. These may not be datable and fixable chronologically, but they were viewed as real events.“ (p. 85)

Sparks (from essay titled, “Genesis 1-11 as Ancient Historiography”):
“Did the authors intend at every point to write reliable history? As I see it, the answer must be no. Our comparison of the texts and sources reveals pretty clearly that the authors were so invested in shaping and reshaping their sources that they cannot have intended their work to yield similitude with actual events. [...] In saying this, I don’t intend to suggest that the authors were avoiding history, as might be the case in full-fledged allegory. I mean instead that they were so busy doing something else that historical questions were not in the foreground of their thinking.” (p. 138)

Here’s my attempt at a summary of all three views: Genesis frequently references events and places that the writer(s) (and listeners/readers) thought of as real, but its message does not rely on its pinpoint historical accuracy. Tomorrow, we will deal with the elephant in the room of this discussion—the relationship between historical accuracy and biblical authority. Not surprisingly, this is the point at which the scholars most sharply disagree. What does it mean that the Bible is authoritative? What does it mean that Genesis is a divine revelation? How does Genesis 1-11 fit in the big picture of God’s Holy Word? These are the most important questions in this discussion, and tomorrow’s excerpts will get to the heart of the matter.

The Sitsiam Camp was founded in 1983. The original school was situated in East Manchester but early in 1994 the school re-located to Ashton-under-Lyne in the heart of a quaintly beautiful, bustling market town famed for it’s many ancient churches.

The camp is authentically Thai and was opened in the traditional manner by a Thai Buddist Monk who came to bless the school and it’s members. In 2003 the school moved again down to the third floor of the building and a completely new purpose-built unit dedicated to teaching the martial arts of Thailand.

The school has enjoyed many successes with a triple British Champion at Lightweight, two double British Champions, a British Ladies Thai Boxing and European Kick Boxing Champion, two British Amateur Champions, silver and bronze medallists at the Amateur World Championships in 1996 and 1997 and a European Silver Medallist also in 1997. Added to this are the countless North West Area and Junior title holders.

This is part one of a three part article, I'll post them on different days.

"Recently, I was asked a provocative question by a young-earth creationist: If I think that the Genesis account of creation is largely symbolic, when does Genesis stop being symbolic and start reporting actual history? Noah? The Tower of Babel? Abraham? Is the whole book a myth? At that moment, I wished—and not for the first time—that the Bible was color-coded into neat sections and had built-in footnotes so we know exactly how to interpret every part. This is not to downplay the power of the Bible’s message or the extraordinary way in which sixty-six ancient books speak in unison of God’s love for his creation. But there are parts of God’s word that defy our efforts to plumb their depths. Simply put, they are difficult to understand. The first eleven chapters of Genesis are a prime example; populated by epic narratives that tell the story of the beginning of all things and set the stage for the calling of God’s people."

To me, being a Christian fuels the drive to understand more about our universe. It also instills a great sense of humility. The scientific establishment often implies that our society knows almost all there is to know, but my perspective as a Christian is that we still know very little about God’s universe. Think of this word picture: we live in a fish bowl, confined within 13 billion light years. At least for now we cannot explore outside of that box, beyond those confines of space and perhaps also outside of our constraint of unidirectional time. We don’t know the future and we can hardly see into the past. But I believe in the age to come God will reveal all of this to us when we are with him.
Unfortunately, many scientists have an antiquated view of Christianity, colored by the many anti-intellectuals within Christendom. Many scientists opt for agnosticism, drawing an arbitrary line with what is known by science, ignoring philosophy and the things we can understand outside of the scientific empiricism of the day. But there are others in my field who are believers.

Introduction
My name is Kru Aaron "Juice" Veverka,
Kind of a long name, but I've worked hard on it, so I guess it shows right from the get go.
I have a penchant for sweat, a love of life, a zest for the magic that lives in the essence of each and every moment.
I have five kids, I'm an Instructor/Fighter for Team GriffonRawl, a cable guy, Church worker(When I can make it, work can be a bummer), tech junkie, and blogger(TwitterBlogger,FacebookGoogle Plus, etc.).

So I figured "What the heck, I'm still getting eight hours of sleep, it's time for me to stop slacking off!";so I got a few students(whom are good friends of mine) together along with my wife and we started the Muay Thai Kai.
The Muay Thai Kai is a Non Profit company that aims to bring martial athletics to the youth and families through churches.

So please feel free to follow me on this interesting journey that is me...you may find something good for you.
Bragging rights
