Decided to stop at the gym[1] after work on my way home[2]. I managed to do something I haven't been able to do in years: I completeded "era" on Heavy mode.

I miss this. If only it weren't an hour out of my way. Or I had a playing partner.

1. Not really a gym.
2. Definitely not on my way home

I may never have heard of Justin prior to this, but he brought us all together.@TheMasterMissy Forever in our hearts.

I'm so proud of all of our local players for being able to put humans first, the game second, and leave factions completely out of the picture. It was a true honour to have been a part of this operation.

AM01-Mike02 Resistance/Enlightened Field Art Project for Justin ‪#‎FAHKCANCER‬

As many of you know, and to those that do not, our friend Justin Manning hasn't been given much time with us. In game TheMasterMissy is passionate and persistent, out of it he has always been humble and wise. I have never met someone as accepting of their fate as he. On January 9th  the news spread that he had been admitted to hospice care nearing the end of his battle with cancer. In a testament to his lasting impression on both the Resistance and Enlightened teams, we  decided to do an x-fac field op creating a two sided starburst heart over his hospice facility. With Justin’s expected prognosis being hours to at most days away, time was of the utmost importance if we wanted it seen by him.

Coming together for a common cause RES and ENL agents from RI, MA, NY,and CT quickly mobilized:  drawing a plan, farming keys, spreading the word and clearing the area. Throughout the night and the following day agents put aside their factions and worked together clearing blocks, exchanging keys, and setting up links. This was a massive undertaking but due to the amazing efforts from both sides, within 30 hours from when the news broke, the starbursts were finished and the fields were up.

Working closely together, both sides started throwing their links at the same time concluding with the field being closed a few hours later. The base anchors were located 2 blocks away from Justin. With the Resistance field giving him blue skies, he was able to see both the blue and green fields in his scanner. Immediately following the completion of the field a x-fac comm salute went out to “@TheMasterMissy Forever in Our Hearts” with agents from both factions around the globe taking to their scanners in a united show of support.

Despite covering a heavily played area of RI and MA, the field is still standing 2 days later and will remain until his passing. We want Justin to know that even though it is a game, many players cast that aside, for there are far greater achievements than ones on a scanner, to show that a fellow player is in Our Hearts. Many players volunteered their weekend to help make this happen. We all sincerely and deeply thank those who helped in any manner.

TheMasterMissy has expressed his heartfelt thanks and appreciation for the outpouring of emotional support.  He and his family have been surprised and a bit overwhelmed by the efforts of everyone involved.

We will always love and support you Justin. Remember to ‪#‎FAHKCancer‬ and to keep ‪#‎TheMasterMissy‬ in our hearts. Love you buddy.

Operation Mission Hunter - Boston
17 hours, 90 missions, 43km walked, 632296 AP, 184 UPC, 452 UPV.

Recently two large-series missions were created in Boston (Zakim Series - 54 missions, and Public Gardens - 24 missions).

The plan was to complete these two mission series', and as many other missions as possible, in one day. I would start at sunrise with the Zakim series, and just keep going all day. And I would only do new missions that I'd not completed before.

Reports from other agents, put Zakim at 10 hours total for completion. Then I would do some (a multiple of 6) missions to get me from the end point of Zakim, to the beginning of the Public Gardens. Reports from the Public Gardens put that series at a total of only 1 hour for completion.

At this point I would be up to 96 missions completed.

Then I mapped out a path that would gain me another 83 missions, and planned to keep going as far as I physically could.

I arrived at the beginning of the Zakim series and started the first mission at 5:50am. I had an extended battery, two external batteries, and 4 bottles of hydration. This was also to be the hottest weekend (so far) of the summer in Boston this year, with a forecast high in the low 90's.

I soon learned that my sneakers were not as new as they were when I was in DC, and I could feel it 4 hours in. Luckily at this point, I was near a drug store, and the good Dr. Scholls gave me some inserts that helped me survive the rest of the day, but the damage was already done. Between the soreness and the heat, it was slow going from then.

13 hours, 3 medals, and a level gain later, I finally finished the Zakim series, 3 hours behind schedule.

Of the 19 missions I had chosen to get me from here to the second series, due to my soreness at this point, I only did 12, eliminating 2 as being too far out of the way, and one has being too hilly terrain.

The Public Gardens series, true to reports, only took an hour to complete, wrapping up the day at 10:45pm

Last night members of our Maine ingress community lost everything they had in the world to a fire please help them by donating, sharing, and spreading the word.
The world around us is not as it seems.... For many of us, Ingress isn't just a game, it is a way of life. In Maine especially, we are a tight group of players who not only support each other in the game, but in real life as well. Because of Ingress I have the privledge of getting to know LeonS...

We have analyzed the results of the mission at document at UCSD.

Early Results:

- ADA attacked the Acolyte's compound
- OLW was not the target of the attack. He was given a warning 6 minutes before the attack to not be on site.
- The attackers targeted a cabin onsite at the compound, which the Enlightened defended with fanatical zeal.
- The attack was to confirm by ADA Roland Jarvis' body is in that cabin (which we have long suspected).
- Its believed the attack was an attempt to sever the bond between the Acolyte and Roland Jarvis; perhaps in order to weaken her.

Cleaning out stuff, and I have too many books (never thought I'd say that).

Question for the audience: Should I keep books I've bought and not read, or keep books that I've already read for the memories (and rereadability)?

Keep some, throw (or, give) some away. I was recently wondering why I still have a book about programming in DBase III.

Story
Introduction
New England native.

I've been a Linux user since 2000, first Debian, then Ubuntu. I consider myself a hacker, not a developer, or a programmer. I don't so much as write programs, as I just bend them to my will. (See definitions #1 through #7 here if you don't understand this usage of the word "hacker")

I love SteamPunk and own a lovely pocket watch (a gift), top hat, bowler, and have dreams of making my car look the part (as I cannot afford a true antique car).

I have been playing Ingress for a few months, and have grown to appreciate the community more than the game itself.

I am a nerd. Or a geek. Whatever you want to call it. And I'm damn proud of it.

I usually stop by a couple times a week, after work, for the broccoli & cheddar quiche, and some variation of chai (I love to mix and match the flavours. Try gingerbread and raspberry!) They've recently opened up the second floor and have started hosting live performances in the space up there. Can't wait to catch a show!

They offer a military discount, too! You won't see them when you're heading off the Cape, so make sure you stop on the way down!
