So why is it that a British Victorian tradition has become the norm in Americans weddings?

I have been asking myself that question for a while. In the tapestry of this country which is woven with the treads of humanity it is interesting to see why one tradition is more popular than another. I have to say that the idea to pass down family heirlooms appeals to everyone but as usual the innovative American thinking has escalated this to a whole new level.

The rhyme that originated in England in the late 1800’s states that a bride should carry “Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue, and a silver sixpence in her shoe”, at the root of this of course “superstition”. Something old for link to the family, something new for moving into the new life, something barrowed for continuity, and something blue as protection against the evil eye. The bride was supposedly to acquire the items that were to be worn on her own, from family and friends, but in today’s society this has become font of inspiration for everything from the nail polish to the decor of the wedding reception.

So let the imagination run free, and find more old and create new wedding traditions where old and new traditions become the treads that are woven into the tapestry of the life of the new couple.
