According to the Laconia fire department in New Hampshire, in the past 68 days they have administered 116 doses of Narcan. Compared to this time last year it is a 905% increase. It has been confirmed by Georgia authorities that two new strains of fentanyl have surfaced in the area. These new strains are so potent they may be resistant to the lifesaving antidote naloxone, or Narcan. Local authorities are warning that if an individual overdoses on one of these new strains, they will likely die as Narcan does not work to reverse the drugs' effects. It is reported that the City of Delray Beach is considering holding big pharma accountable for the opioid epidemic.
