Gomments: Google Comments

The Google comment system, which will almost certainly rival that of Facebook, will have deep links to Google’s network of services and websites, indexing comments in Google Search, and most significantly, the system will be available for use on third party sites.

This makes a lot of sense since comments are a huge part of the content ecosystem, particularly if you can attach identity to those comments.

+AJ Kohn It'll be interesting to see how it will work with those who did not want to leap into bed with Facebook and went into Disqus or Livefyre and who now may want to use Google commenting but have too much content tied up in the alternative systems.
This will be interesting. I presume Blogger will be first to see it.

Yes +David Amerland, it's a crowded space with Facebook, Disqus, IntenseDebate, Livefyre as well as the group of people who all hate those systems and instead want to use the commenting systems available in WordPress or Blogger.

If/When Google launches this it'll be interesting to see if part of the lure to using it is to help Google better understand who is engaging on your site as well as the quality of comments.

And will Google have a way to import old comments into their system?

I can see your point +Marcin Ciszewicz. But perhaps Google wants you to only log in with your Google+ identity and that means you'd be tossing a lot of the Disqus framework out.
I really can't decide if Google is stubborn or just plain stupid.
