This is a rubber band penguin charm that my daughter made for me for Fathers Day. I think it's really cute.

The really cool part about this is that she took a design for a different charm (an owl) and modified the design herself into the penguin.

Some of my kids are running around the house pretending to be Transformers. I'm totally ok with this.

I realize this is an old-school way of rendering games, but it's still a really cool introduction to 1st-person rendering.

I started an OpenGL game engine for Android that wasn't even quite this good and it took a LOT more Java code than this.

Today’s #VeteranOfTheDay is Tom Perry, who passed away this weekend at age 92. Tom joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1944 and at the end of World War II was among the American forces that landed on Saipan. After the war, he was among the troops sent to occupy Japan.

“We were the first group to land in Nagasaki,” Tom would tell friends. “I will never forget that experience as long as I live.” Responding to the devastation all around them, Tom and fellow Marines helped in their off-hours to rebuild churches and secure food and shelter for orphaned children.

Tom continued a life of service as a senior leader in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His office was decorated with an American flag, jars of sand from Iwo Jima and Saipan, and a photo of the chapel he helped build on Saipan. "I would like to say I have always been proud of the time I served in the Marine Corps,” Tom would say.

Semper Fidelis, Tom. We honor his service.

Apparently, Martian sunsets are blue. (Or at least this one was.) Awesome.

You and I are of the first terrestrial generations ever to view a sunset on another planet. One way or another, we won't be the last. I dare you to view this without humming the music from the Luke views the double star sunset scene from early in the original Star Wars.
The sun dips to a Martian horizon in a blue-tinged sky in images sent home to Earth this week from NASA's Curiosity Mars rover.
