Will Your Health Plan be Hit By the Cadillac Tax?
October 29, 2015

By William C. Corson, CLU, ChFC, RHU

Even though the so called “Cadillac Tax” has not been implemented yet, an increasing number of health plans will be subject to it. You don’t need to own a Cadillac or a luxury car, nor even have a luxury healthcare plan to get hit by this tax.  The Cadillac tax is a rule under the Affordable Care Act (ACA) that levies a 40 percent excise tax on the portion of total health insurance premiums that exceed $27,500 for a family and $10,200 for an individual starting in 2018. By way of comparison, in 2015 average premiums in employer-sponsored insurance for a family are $17,545 and for an individual, $6,251.
