When you live in Arizona, sometimes you forget how cold it can get in the Sonoran desert in the wintertime. On average, five months out of the year our low temperatures will be under 54 degrees, that makes for chilly nights. Make sure your home heater is working well all season long.

Myth #1: It's a dry heat.
It is, except when it's not. Relative humidity is usually low in the Phoenix area but during the summer months the moisture can creep up as monsoon conditions develop. It doesn't rise to Florida-like mugginess, but it's still not a dry heat.

We're pretty excited about the newest Nest Thermostat!

Saving energy starts with your thermostat.
Putting in new light bulbs. Efficient appliances. Unplugging everything when you leave. It saves energy, sure. But it’s a drop in the bucket compared to what a thermostat can do. Your thermostat controls half your energy bill. And it’s wasting energy.

A few plants or hedges will not only hide the unit from view, they can also make your air conditioner run more efficiently.
Make sure plants are at least 2-3 feet from the air conditioning unit on all sides, and plan the landscaping so that the air conditioner is easily accessible for maintenance and repairs. If you have trees or other plants growing above the unit, trim regularly to keep a 5 foot clearance between them and the air conditioner.

With the summer heat, it's important to make sure you stay hydrated. Our bodies are over two-thirds water. A good basic rule of thumb is to take your body weight (in pounds) and divide it by 2.
