DC Movie Madness Update!

Huge, big, insane DC Movie news update.
I'm not kidding..Scroll through to check up on the movies you care about or be prepared for information overload!

Warner Bros. and DC might have sidestepped going up against Avengers: Age of Ultron in 2015, but there's still a ton of work that needs to be done if Batman vs Superman is going to make its new 2016 release date. Read on for more casting for the upcoming film, David Goyer's comments on Green Lantern, and Gal Gadot's new look.

Three Actors Cast in Batman vs Superman

A trio of performers have been added to the Batman vs Superman cast list.

The first is Holly Hunter, who won an Oscar for her performance in The Piano. She's also received Golden Globe and Oscar nominations for roles in Thirteen, The Firm, and Broadcast News.

Callan Mulvey is an Australian actor who recently had roles in 300: Rise of an Empire and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Lastly, Tao Okamoto only has one feature film to her name, but it's a big one. She played Mariko in The Wolverine last year.

Green Lantern?

Despite its after-the-credits tease, the Ryan Reynolds Green Lantern movie flopped hard enough that a sequel was never seriously discussed. Reynolds has repeatedly stated that he has no interest in returning to the role either.

Apparently Man of Steel screenwriter David Goyer is interested in bringing the character back though, most likely for the upcoming Justice League movie.

"I would love to do Green Lantern," he told Collider. "I really wanted to showcase Krypton as a truly alien world. That was one of the things I wanted to do from the beginning when I got involved in the project. At his heart, Superman’s always been a science fiction story. I wanted to lean into that, and so did Chris, and so did Zack, so I was just glad we were able to."

WB president Kevin Tsujihara added in a separate interview with the New York Times that a DC Comics film series will be made official "soon," which the NYT assumes will be Justice League. Could it be Green Lantern instead? Probably not, but maaaaybe?

Warner Bros. Won't Back Down from Cap 3

Disney/Marvel recently revealed that the mystery film scheduled for the same release date as Batman vs Superman is none other than Captain America 3. With neither studio budging on their date, we'll likely be seeing a game of superhero chicken over the next two years.

Warner Bros. exec Dan Fellman admitted that the two movies opening on the same date doesn't make sense, but added that his studio has no plans to move their movie.

"It doesn’t make a lot of sense for two huge superhero films to open on the same date but there is a lot of time between now and 5/6/16," Dan Fellman, president of domestic distribution for Warner Bros., told Bloomberg. "However at this time, we are not considering a change of date for "Batman vs. Superman.'"

Your move Marvel.

Gal Gadot is Getting Into Wonder Woman-Shape

Gal Gadot, who will portray Wonder Woman in Batman vs Superman (and beyond most likely), was spotted in Israel lately with fitness trainer Mark Twight. When she was originally cast, some remarked that Gadot's slender frame did not match the Wonder Woman physique. It's hard to tell from the photos, but it does seem like she's bulking up a bit for the role.

In an interview with E! Online, Gadot revealed that she's doing extensive weight training to prepare for the role. She reportedly left Israel recently to fly out to Detroit, Michigan. Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill, and costume designer Michael Wilkonson are all expected to be there as well as of today.

Comic Review: Aron Warner's Pariah

I'll paste most of it here, see below!

The voice of innovation is a rare one.  The problem isn’t that there are no new ideas, but rather there are no new authors.  When minds meld together, new boundaries are explored and new paths are charted, and that is exactly what Aron Warner’s Pariah is about.

I honestly didn’t know what to expect when I began Pariah.  It looked like a simple sci-fi story, but I soon found the joy in the storytelling style.  Pariah shuffles through vignettes in the lives of characters called “vitros,” normal appearing humans enhanced due to genetic birth experimentation.  These vitros are highly intelligent human beings that are viewed as a threat to society due to their unexplainable mental capacities, and they soon find themselves at the center of a bioterrorist plot when a virus escapes from an experimental facility where mainly vitros are employed.

Pariah is amazing in the way it explores and creates different characters in such a short amount of time.  Each issue tells the perspective of a different vitro, highlighting their past and their feelings about being shut-outs from society.  Their reactions differ; some are complacent while others are near-sociopathic and very aware of it.  However, the constant factors of what it means to be super-human and super-humanistic entities are very present within all of them.

In the end of this first volume, everything melds together.  Characters run into each other, factions are explained, and conspiracies escalate to a cliffhanger sure to keep anyone waiting for more.  All the while, a beautiful, raw art style that seems complex and surreal yet simple and relatable draws you into the world.

Pariah isn’t without its own superhuman demons, however.  As I have often seen in tales of above-average intelligence, very few processes are explained or explained well.  In the first issue, when Brent, the main character, MacGyver’s his cell phone into a supersonic wave emitter, very little more reason is used than Brent’s internal monologue on how the hands sometime move faster than the mind.  In other words, mental magic.  While I am all for the notion of suspension of disbelief, this approach can feel a bit like a copout at times as characters “just do things.”  ......

[Review] Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Out of the main four Avengers, Captain America is a clear stand out for many reasons. He’s the most grounded in reality, is a classic “good ol’ boy”, and has a clear presence as a leader. In Captain America: The First Avenger as well as The Avengers, we see him adapting to new situations and The Winter Soldier is no different. Now that he’s found a place in this new world, the true dilemma is whether he is ready to accept it.

The story picks up with Steve Rogers (Chris Evans; The Iceman, Puncture) as a major part of the S.H.I.E.L.D. defense force against terrorism. Slowly, he’s learning that the government he has vowed to serve may not be as trustworthy as it may seem. There is evidence that S.H.I.E.L.D. has been compromised, and everyone’s a suspect in the eyes of the Captain. At the thick of everything, a strange being only known as The Winter Soldier keeps popping up when things start getting dangerous.

As stated before, Captain America’s part in the entire Marvel movie universe is very different from everyone else. It’s not fantasy, light hearted, or funny; it’s a very serious matter. The Winter Soldier keeps up that tradition by focusing on a story that revolves around the idea of compromise and having to live with their outcome. It’s a more serious script than what has been seen thus far in Phase Two, and the movie handles it very well. On its own, it’s a great social commentary of what is happened today.

Much of the praise goes to the actors in the film. Evans truly captures what it means to be Captain America. His performance is very genuine, stands as a natural leader, and makes it clear why anyone would want to follow him. The Captain also has to go through a big internal struggle about who he is and how it’s clashing with the world around him. Evans pulls this off beautifully, bringing all he can to the role.

I'll just be grateful for that one, +Awesomestations. The movies are relatively wholesome..perhaps that's where the Disney touch comes in? Or is that just Marvel

How Big is the Universe?

Could you send a text to aliens and survive the delivery? How old is light from the stars by the time it finally reaches our eyes? How small are you really? Answers to these and other mind benders await.

+Nick Barton shares his favorite short film find of the week. Check it out below.

Sunday short film time.

Anything that channels 'The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy' so well, is cool in my book.

Beakus were commissioned to create three animated films that explain key concepts about our universe, with humour helping to explain the 'almost' unexplainable! Director Amaël Isnard also designed the films.

We're an entertainment news blog and bona fide geek collective: comics, movies, music, games, tv.
Introduction
In your delirious 3 AM link clicking ("just one more"), you come across a page of awesome. Evil, nerdiness, pretension, and mindlessness all lurk here: all you could ever ask from a publication. You set it as your home page.

The next afternoon, you wake from your slumber to be reunited with your beloved internet. You notice your home page is different from what it was last week. Your groggy afternoon mind may not remember the awesome enlightenment of late, late night (there's no such thing as morning) Internet browsing, so that's what this "about" blurb is for.

We at 8th-Circuit aim for nothing less than world domination. We seduce the masses by regaling them with tales about our adventures in front of a glowing screen. We love the screen: it allows us to commune with video games, television, movies, music and random stuff on the Internet. The epics you will find on these pages surpass those of Homer; these are the cliffsnotes to enlightenment.

Come with us if you want to live.
