When we move into conflict, we polarize into an oppositional stance:  I win, you lose.  Daniel Shapiro, Harvard International Negotiation Program, says that the key to conflict resolution is emotional intelligence -- so we can make the shift to stand side-by-side facing the conflict together.  That small "burst" of empathy changes everything.
