BARBELL CLUB: POWERBUILDING 101 starts April 10, 2017!!!
It’s time to get swole. Hypertrophy is the process of making your muscles larger. Note that I didn’t say stronger–just larger. A larger muscle is a stronger muscle. A larger muscle looks good in a bathing suit. In fact, you will see some strength GAINZ during this cycle from increased muscular size, even though that isn’t the primary goal. In our next cycle we’ll turn to the task of making all that new muscle strong. But for now, we focus on size.
Warning: You will lose a lot of body fat.
Why? Because muscle size is a limiting factor in strength. If you expose two muscles to the exact same strength training, the larger muscle will ultimately be able to exert more force. That’s not to say that the larger muscle is always stronger between two different people–no no no. But given the same person exposed to the same training, the larger muscle will win. Every time. That is why most professional sports programs that aren’t limited by weight classes start with a hypertrophy phase. So why should our program be any different?
The hypertrophy portion of each day uses a training method developed by Charles Poliquin, a world renowned coach, that incorporates tempo into your lifts. Does a soccer mom/dad using a method developed by a bodybuilder sound crazy? As ninjas we seek out the best in the world at different disciplines and learn from them. We learn from world class powerlifters, strongmen, olympic weightlifters, gymnasts, runners, rowers and....bodybuilders. Well you better believe that bodybuilders are the world’s experts at hypertrophy. And don’t worry, I’ve made the program very specific to the needs of your everyday life. You won’t find any burpees or 400m runs. You will find a lot of nasty work with squats, pullups, presses, and lunges. Now you see why I am calling this program Barbell Club: Powerbuilding 101.
The final piece that may look weird is “extreme stretch” and “extreme squeeze.” You’re trying to physically enlarge the fascia surrounding the muscle to allow for increased growth. Stretching pulls it larger from the outside, and contracting forces blood into the muscle, pushing it larger from the inside.
We start Monday April 10th.
During this cycle you’ll see the following training principles:
Work capacity 3x per week
Power Cleans or an alternate complex 1x per week
Conditioning 2x per week
Hypertrophy work 5x per week
So what is our Barbell Club? Well, for starters it is our weightlifting class ranging in experience from newbies all the way to seasoned veterans all training with common goals (to avoid burpees and running) and pushing each other to become better. We help with form and technique, explain the training tools, accessory movements and concepts that you may be lacking from your current programming.
Why join? For those interested in trying power-lifting, bodybuilding or just want to become a badass we help you in learning the three big lifts (squat, bench and deadlift). Never lifted before? Are you hesitant to take the plunge? No problem! We hold your hand the entire program, explain ways to maximize your GAINZ and seriously boost your confidence by helping you workout with your old one rep max. You might even decide you want to compete one day.
Where do I register? Follow the link below and give us your information. Your registration fee is a one time $99 fee and you must maintain an UNLIMITED membership during the 12 week cycle. If you're already a 4Balance Fitness member, you will be automatically upgraded to the unlimited when you register. Everyone registering will receive a free pair of lifting straps because...
