The prolific creativity of the Harlem Renaissance is something that has never been in dispute. The same cannot be said for the strategies and specific historical developments that made it happen. That it was a triumph of creative genius over destructive violence is always worth celebrating:

A literary renaissance isn't much without a few good debates and this was a good one between #LangstonHughes  and #GeorgeSSchuyler  . So how did  #RussellSimmons  and #ArsenioHall  get thrown into the mix?

The #HarlemRenaissance  poet Claude McKay is not as vigorously celebrated as his great contemporary +langston hughes . But maybe it's time for that to change.

A library, school, and individual favorite for all things Jazz Age Harlem Renaissance.
Introduction

In 2003, the Encyclopedia of the Harlem Renaissance published by Facts On File became the first comprehensive volume on the much celebrated movement that gave birth to modern black culture. In February 2006, Black Issues Book Review voted the encyclopedia one its “essential titles for the home library.”

Prior to that, it won the Choice Academic Title Award, New Jersey Notable Book of the Year Award, and Best History Book Award for its treatment of an era that not only gave us such outstanding authors as Zora Neale Hurston and leaders like James Weldon Johnson, but laid the foundation for the Civil Rights Movement and provided such lasting legacies as gospel music, jazz, the blues, rap, and other staples of African-American culture.

It is also a principle reference text for the 100th Anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance website.
